Homestyle Fried Rice

Every Asian family has their own secret recipe for fried rice. I think the only requirements are egg and rice. My mom's is simple but super tasty--rice, eggs, scallions, and the secret ingredient--cut up hot dogs. I love it, especially with some ketchup added. East meets West, indeed. She doesn't add any fancy vegetables or soy sauce or anything.

In a fit of trying-to-clean-out-the fridge, I made my own friend rice over the weekend. My secret ingredient builds upon my mom's recipe...it's ketchup mixed with soy sauce and sriracha hot sauce, poured over the rice. Yum.

What's in your fried rice?
